Romeo y Julieta Habana Reserve Robusto Maduro Review

Romeo Y Julieta Habana Reserve Robusto Maduro

A 90-rated, full-bodied cigar that isn't overpowering but still packs a good punch.

I just smoked my second Romeo y Julieta Habana Reserve Robusto Maduro this evening, and I wanted to share my thoughts on it with this review. This cigar certainly possesses a somewhat full-bodied flavor while still being considered a medium-full, so I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone who’s new to smoking cigars. The rich¬†Nicaraguan, Peruvian, and Dominican filler provide an extremely bold flavor which cigar aficionados will most likely enjoy, without that feeling of “too bold” that some of the other full-bodied blends sometimes offer.

I’ve been a long-standing fan of Romeo Y Julieta for quite a few years now, although most of my experience has been in the medium or mild to medium-bodied offerings. This is the first time I’ve tried one of their bolder cigars, and I have to say that I’m impressed. I wouldn’t consider this an “everyday” cigar, but if you’re in the mood for a rich smoke that doesn’t threaten to rip your nasal cavity apart (for those of you who exhale partially through your nose like I generally do), then the Habana Reserve should serve you well.

With a 90-rating, the Habana Reserve doesn’t fail to impress. Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper is a very dark brown, almost black color, and it appeared tightly-wrapped. I didn’t have any trouble keeping an even burn throughout the entire cigar, and it lit easily. I’ve found with other cigars that the wrapper towards the end can sometimes come loose after it’s been cut or punched (I tend to punch), but the Habana Reserve kept its wrap throughout the entire smoke.

I read some other reviews online before purchasing the Habana Reserve and had my doubts at first, as some people have had trouble getting a good draw. However, I for one didn’t have this problem at all, and my first punch was able to sustain a draw for the entire cigar. But, buyer beware, as apparently some batches aren’t quite perfect.

Final Thoughts On The Habana Reserve Robusto Maduro

While I was quite pleased with this cigar, I still wouldn’t recommend it as an everyday smoke. Once in a while, however, I am in the mood for something with a little extra “umph” that doesn’t make me dizzy. For that purpose, I’d recommend the Romeo Y Julieta Habana Reserve Robusto Maduro. But, if you’re looking for either a mild or medium-bodied blend, you should look elsewhere. It’s also not an overly bold cigar, so if you want something more along the lines of that extreme, you should avoid this as well. Overall, I’m giving this cigar 4.5 stars out of 5.
